We arrived safely in Four Corners (a small village 20 min away from New Iberia) at 2 pm Wednesday. We're back on central time with fields, open spaces and flatland around us, john deere tractors on the fields and its humid.....mmmmm..feels like Manitoba!
Our new location is at the dead end of the village. We have beautiful bush the back and side, and an open field of sugar cane in front. We're back to the slower paced life with places where no one occupies and FARMLAND all around, which feels good after living where they have canada's population crammed into one state. We enjoyed it there, and we will enjoy it here. We're in a black community now, which is a change from the majority spanish mexican people we were surrounded by until now. It feels good to be here.
I am time and time again amazed, at how big our camper feels every time we open the slide. I think it grows a little each time we drive. Definately better than the other way around! Everyone here is very friendly so far, our project directors are a couple in their 70's from New Brunswick. Many of the long termers are from manitoba. There are only 3 men for short termers here this week. Our 26 hours of travelling went well. We prayed that God would keep us safe and he did. I almost finished reading a book to Wes while driving--an Amish book---it was so funny to see his face light up and say "book time!" as excitedly as a little kid, and pop up in his seat, when he saw me take the book out. Good to see him still excited over the small things in life! (he would probably be upset with me for writing this!!)
We stopped in El Paso Texas for our first night, Kerville TX for our second, and Beaumont TX the 3rd.
Today (Thursday) we had our first work day. We survived. barely, but we did. Our bodies are definately noticing the 4am wake up time and over 2 hour longer work days than we're used to. (because of the driving time in CA). They are also noticing the week vacation of rest we just had too. So we are tired. It wasnt even lunch time, and Wes and I felt like it should be 5pm. Thats the kind of day we had. LoOOOng. Now Wes had to go out with a few men to check out a job about 20 min away. Bedtime will come earlier today. We taped and mudded all day today. We are working on a reno house (a HUGE oooold house) in Franklin, for a single older black lady. So apparently MDS said we would finish 3 rooms in the house. So we are getting there. Thank you for the prayers for safety, we ask that you might pray for physical and emotional strength as we do our best to serve our Lord! We will need all the strength and energy we can get! We definately have our times we wish we could be back home living our "normal" life, and not be missing out on all that goes on without us. We're missing all our family and friends, especially our nieces and nephews, knowing how much they are all changing without us around to see.
